Trump is Gripping the Back of Europe’s Hair

Antifascism

It has taken me many, many hours of doomscrolling, but I think I am finally able to start ignoring the plane crash during a forest fire during an alien invasion that is the Trump regime. I have become uncomfortably numb.

Progressives in Europe knew it was going to be bad, and very bad, but I have still been completely shocked by the tempo, the naked aggression and the gleeful, wanton destruction. Toxic masculinity on full display, pretending it is “vitality”. Exhibitionist criminality, for the sake of feeling alive, billionaire-style.

Enabling and compliance

I have also been dismayed at how difficult it is for people to resist this regime doing its evil business. I have tried to follow a lot of the coverage by authors and publications from the USA but I have yet to see a plausible explanation for how DOGE was able to gain access to critical systems so easily without people saying “make me”. DOGE had never been established as legal and legitimate, so there was no reason whatsoever to comply. Indeed, the courts subsequently ruled many things were in fact not legal so people could and should have stopped complying. Yet, it seems enough people must have stepped aside when they came to ‘feed USAID through the wood chipper’ or even volunteered to hold its feet…
